Overview

Our aim is to offer people who are very new to accounting the opportunity to progress through the early stages of the ACCA qualification framework using the Foundations in Accountancy Program. The option will be made available to complete all three levels within one calendar year. On our part we will offer you excellent support throughout your studies from our dedicated team of tutors. Our aim is to watch you progress, and grow in confidence to succeed at all levels. 

This course offers a fully accredited qualification in its own right, recognized by ACCA, and very importantly; employers. It is also the first stage of the Foundations in Accountancy Program which will lead you onto the ACCA Applied Skills and Strategic Professional Levels.

ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 2)

This forms the first level of qualification within the Foundation program. To attain the full Level 2 Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting you will be required to complete the Recording Financial Transactions unit (FA1) and the Management Information unit (MA1). The level 2 qualification will be equivalent to GCSE standard.

Unit: Recording Financial Transactions (FA1)

The aim of this unit is to develop a knowledge and understanding of the main types of business transactions and documentation, and how these are recorded in an accounting system up to the trial balance stage.

Syllabus Content: On successful completion of this unit, candidates should be able to explain and understand the following:

  • Types of business transactions and documentation
  • Duality of transactions and the double entry system
  • Banking system and transactions
  • Posting of payroll into the accounts
  • Ledger accounts
  • Cash and bank
  • Sales and credit transactions
  • Purchases and credit transactions
  • Reconciliation and preparing the trial balance

Unit: Management Information (MA1)

The aim of this unit is to develop a knowledge and understanding of providing basic management information in an organisation to support management in planning and decision-making.

Syllabus Content: On successful completion of this unit, candidates should be able to:

  • Explain the nature and purpose of cost and management accounting
  • Identify source documents in a costing system and correctly code data
  • Classify costs by nature, behavior and purpose
  • Record costs for material, labour and expenses
  • Use spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.


Who is this course for?

This course is designed for those individuals who do not hold any accounting qualification, and are aiming to start on the first rung of the ladder into an accounting career with ACCA qualifications. As it is classroom based it offers structured learning with one to one support, something that distance learners find difficult to obtain.

Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements; however, it is important that you have good basic skills in numeracy and literacy which will be assessed during the enrollment process. It would be to the individual’s advantage to have some work experience in an office environment, although this is not mandatory.

Length of course 6 weeks (excluding exam)

Assessment method: Each unit will require completion of a computer-based exam. 50 multiple choice questions. 2 hours in length. Pass mark 50%

Career path

Should you be working in an accounting environment you will find that this qualification gives you a very good basic knowledge of the theory of accounting and double entry. If you are keen to move into accountancy this qualification will provide you with excellent employment prospects. Salaries from £15,000 to £20,000 based upon experience and qualifications.
